Data Model Working Group Charter
-Draft-
Purpose
The primary goal of the SPASE Data Model Working Group is to identify
and describe useful and practical meta-data and protocol standards
to be used in the implementation of a distributed, heterogeneous,
mega-scale archive system with search and retrieval functionality.
In addition, the Data Model Group will design and implement an extensible,
cross-discipline data dictionary/thesaurus for use by SPASE.
Scope
The SPASE Data Model Working Group is to provide technical advice,
recommendations and detailed documentation of data models for use
by SPASE. This includes:
- Identify and describe useful and practical standards for use
by SPASE in the following areas:

- Transport protocols
- User-to-system and system-to-system messaging.
- Implement an extensible, cross-discipline data dictionary.
Documentation produced by the Data Model Group should be adequate
for use in the implementation of prototype or proof-of-concept systems.
The Data Model Group is to brief the Technical Group on all activities
of the Data Model Group to help insure that implementations created
by the Technical Group meet accepted data models.
